BI is about accessing and exploring organization’s data while Data Warehouse is about gathering, transforming and storing data. A DWH serves as the foundation of a BI system by providing significant support for the following business processes:

  • Management information systems like online analytical processing or reporting
  • Analytical CRM
  • Business process optimization
  • Data mining
  • Customer lifetime value

“We use the power of Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) and other technologies to provide your business with the data it requires.”

Data Warehousing Services

We take a methodical look at your data warehouse implementation needs by taking each of the following steps:

  • Learning and analyzing your major business processes, so we understand your data flow and systems
  • Diving deep into source systems to understand the data and its associated issues
  • Creating an ‘as-is’ data model based on the analysis, which shows where we are before the design begins
  • Incorporating your strategic business initiatives into requirements that you know your organization has
  • Creating the ‘to-be’ logical data model which will meet your known requirements and expected analysis
  • Creating vital core pieces of the physical data warehouse and analytics tools in short, repeated ‘sprints’
  • Continually engage with employees from all levels of the organization to get their regular feedback
  • Incorporating lessons learned as part of each ‘sprint’, thus improving future ‘sprints’

Proper Data Integration involves Data Modeling, Master Data Management, Change Data Capture and Data Quality; and it is common to combine data from a financial system, a CRM system, a HR system and one or many ERP systems – just to name a few. In such an environment, it is important to integrate and reconcile the data from the variety of systems for making complex business decisions.

“Whether you are looking to develop a new Data Warehouse on-premise, hybrid or in the cloud or want to improve the performance of an existing one, our Data Warehousing consulting team will help you harness the power of your data and transform it into reliable, actionable intelligence that can drive business success.”

Prosoft’s DWH consultants are ready to assist you with designing a full-fledged DWH/BI solution or give expert advice on migrating/upgrading the existing one to optimize DWH performance and costs.

Depending on the size of a project, we deploy one or more of each of the following talents for a Data Warehouse implementation:

Project manager: Defines and communicates DWH implementation project objectives, manages project scope, costs, timing and quality.

Business analyst: Elicits and documents DWH solution’s functional and non-functional requirements (including DWH solution’s building blocks, integrations with data source systems, etc.), technical limitations (if any).

DWH system analyst: Analyses data sources (and their dependencies) and data analytics software (if any) to be integrated with the DWH solution. Reviews data loaded into the data warehouse for accuracy.

DWH solution architect: Draws up DWH architecture requirements. Designs DWH architecture that supports high availability, performance, scalability, and security of the DWH solution.

Data engineer: Develops a data model and its structures, draws up data flows (based on the system analyst’s input). Develops, tests and maintains a data pipeline routing source data to the DWH. Builds the ETL/ELT process.

Quality assurance engineer: Conducts DWH solution’s requirements analysis, defines a test strategy, and designs an optimal test environment to simulate real-time DWH scenarios. Executes test cases to evaluate functional and non-functional aspects of the DWH system.

DevOps engineer: Sets up the DWH software development infrastructure, automates and streamlines development and release processes by introducing CI/CD pipelines, monitors DWH performance, availability, and security.

DWH Implementation Process

Prosoft’s DWH implementation plan is closely bound to particular business needs and objectives, so the DWH implementation steps may differ or merge depending on the project specificity and scale. In general, our plan covers the following:

DWH feasibility study

Determining DWH implementation project viability considering:

  • Business objectives (strategic and tactical) to achieve with DWH implementation.
  • Company’s, departments’ and business users’ needs and expectations from the DWH implementation project.
  • A high-level project management scenario with DWH implementation project deliverables, skills required, time and costs involved, potential problems.

Note: To assess the DWH implementation viability, a PoC can be delivered (estimated PoC delivery time is 2-3 weeks).

Discovery

Business needs analysis and elicitation of high-level DWH requirements, including, but not limited to:

  • Number of data source systems to be integrated.
  • Source data volume and complexity, etc.

DWH conceptualization and platform selection

Identification of the desired DWH feature set and optimal DWH software (DWH database, ETL/ELT tool) selection.

Factors to be taken into account:

  • Data sources and data analytics infrastructure in use (if any).
  • Number of data flows to be implemented.
  • Data security requirements, etc.

Business planning

  • Defining DWH implementation project deliverables and timeframes.
  • Designing project risk management and mitigation plans.
  • Estimating DWH implementation costs and DWH TCO.

After evaluating DWH TCO, you are ready to estimate the return on investment (ROI) and choose the optimal deployment option ((multi-)cloud, on-premises or hybrid).

DWH system analysis and architecture design

Among key activities at this stage are:

  • Detailed analysis of each data source with its data types, volume, structure, formats, and more.
  • Identification and analysis of existing data quality issues.
  • Building a valid data model.
  • Identifying entities’ types (e.g., products, vendors, customers) and attributes (identifiers), relations between entities.
  • Mapping objects, etc.
  • Designing ETL/ELT processes for data integration and data flow control.

Development and stabilization

  • DWH platform customization.
  • Data sources integration (including adaptation of source systems).
  • Developing ETL/ELT pipelines (including data validation) and ETL/ELT testing.
  • DWH performance testing.

DWH launch

Introducing the DWH solution to end users: depending on DWH size and complexity, it can be done on a step-by-step basis.

DWH support and evolution

Duration: throughout the whole DWH solution lifetime

  • Iterative DWH evolution (adopting changes in the source systems, expanding data flows, etc.)
  • Supporting evolving storage and analytics needs by adding new data sources while preserving high data quality.
  • ETL/ELT performance tuning.
  • Monitoring/adjusting DWH performance and availability.

In all Business Intelligence projects, a Data Warehouse or Data Lake is a critical part of the data processing ecosystem as it controls data integration and complex master data management processes. As provided by our DWH and Big Data services, the better data integration, harmonization, and quality delivered – the more advanced, reliable, and insightful analysis is possible.

BI Implementation Process

  1. Gather requirements for Business Intelligence solution

At the very beginning of the project, our team will gather requirements from business departments, determine specific project approaches, solutions and Business Intelligence technology that will fit your organization best. After a joint workshop, we will define how we will help you to solve existing problems and improve your business performance by using Business Intelligence tools and analytics technology deployment.

  1. Collect and integrate data from various data sources

After defining a business goal, our team will collect and integrate data from various sources (i.e. ERP, transactional databases, file systems, flat files, Excels) into one master database called data warehouse or big data file systems so you will be easily able to access and manipulate different types of information from one place.

  1. Transform, clean, and prepare data

Collected and integrated data is transformed during the loading process into a database system (ETL), then prepared for exploration, ad-hoc analysis, and modeling. We implement highly scalable data processing scripts to aggregate, clean, and transform data into an appropriate format. After it, business users are able to analyze data, create ad-hoc sql queries, and be self-sufficient by using modern Business Intelligence tools.

  1. Explore data and get insights

Together with business users, defined problems are solved through conclusions from the data exploration process using data mining techniques and Business Intelligence tools. Developed OLAP or Tabular solution will organize and help you to discover patterns in data. BI tools go beyond knowing what and when it happened – they can predict with the highest probability why it happened.

    5. Data Visualization and Reporting

We create rich, visualized Business Intelligence dashboards and reports that facilitate sharing the m  ost important information, and KPI’s inside or outside your organization. You will reduce user interactions and save time while the business intelligence system will do everything for you. It helps enterprises to make the right business decisions at the right time, and let you manage organizations consciously while improving performance KPI’s.
